I'm still here, just haven't really had a lot to say lately.

yes, I'm still pregnant, four days past the due date, and counting. :(
(although, pre-labor has begun, this means I'm experiencing intermittent heavy cramping and contractions as my cervix dilates in preparation for the actual labor, but otherwise I'm going nowhere fast.)

besides the usual pregnancy fun, life is pretty boring, I can't do much, so I pretty much just hang around the house and knit, spin, embroider, read and futz around on the computer.

if you are interested in the crafty side you can check out my knitblog it seems to be getting updated a little more regularly than here. :-/

to add a little more entertainment value to this post:

here, have some pictures of a cute cat and Billy )

today Bill has a seminar to attend after classes so won't be getting home until quite late.

a little after his usual return time, Esmerelda started acting really lovey and cuddly, and then wandered off.

a few minutes ago I got up and noticed that she wasn't at her usual spot in the window, so I went looking for her

tomorrow will be the fifth anniversary of our first date, so Bill and I got all dressed up and went to the Thailand Thai restaurant to celebrate. (we went there for our first date, and have done for every anniversary since)

in preparation of an upcoming wedding we will be attending, and for grad school interviews, Bill has been spending a lot of time researching men's fashion and acquiring the necessary components. today was his first opportunity to get dressed up, so I just had to take pictures!

the weather has finally turned nice around here and we have been able to open the windows.

this of course, makes Esme incredibly happy, and busy.
she has spent the last two days running between bedroom and living room window watching birds, neighbors and neighbors dogs.

today she looked so content and relaxed in her new favorite spot that i decided to take some videos:

it is really and truly spring now!

about the beginning of march the ice breaker went through the St. Lawrence and ships have been coming and going along the narrow path.

but only just recently has the rest of the mighty river begun breaking up. which mean it finally is spring. (even if it is still pretty chilly out)

the view from the benches at Frink park. you can see it's clearing up nicely along the seaway, and the ice burgs are bumping around around the shoreline

today Bill and I went to Wellesley island to go for a hike.
the weather finally was warm enough and there was no rain. and frankly we were going stir crazy.

things are just beginning to thaw and melt up there. there is still quite a bit of snow on the trails. but there is also a lot of melting and running water.

several times we cam to parts of the trail that were flooded and there were quite a few impromptu steams.

at one point we came to a spot were water was flowing towards us from both ends of the trail and diverting of to the side towards a small bay nearby. the running water over the leaves was very pretty, and the resulting curls and rivulets when we stired up the mud was kinda pretty. so I took a picture:

Photobucket

I also took some videos today. the first one is of the muddy stream an the next to are of a spot where the ground was covered with a layer of ice, but there was water flowing along the ground, UNDER the ice, making weird/cool shadows and movements.

After I posted yesterday there was a bit of a ruckus when Cayenne got a little too excited near Esme, and somebody got a claw full of fur and somebody else had a small scratch by her right eye. (Don't worry, she's ok, no damage)

We decided to close the bedroom door last night so Esme had the living area and Cayenne was in with us, that way there could be no accidental bothering in the middle of the night.

The newest member of our household!

It is my pleasure to introduce you all to Miss Esmerelda Weatherwax!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We went to the SPCA today and looked around, she was quite lovey, and insisted on climbing upon both mine and Bill's shoulders. They said she was used to dogs and small children, and was very calm and laid back.

It was a bit of a bumpy start at first, Cayenne got far too excited by the new kitty and got a little too close for Esme's comfort, which resulted in a scratch upon the nose. But after a while with Cayenne and the leash and time to explore Esme decided upon a safe spot, and Cayenne got used to the idea that she didn't need to constantly inspect the new cat. I eventually put a blanket down in Esme's safe spot so she would have something soft to lie on.

Lunch time was quite interesting, at the Shelter they only feed dry food, so we didn't know what Esme would like, and hadn't actually bought any wet food yet. We fed Cayenne first, we decided to give her the 'special food' it's this all natural stuff that comes in a tube like sausage, she loves it, and we thought it would bee a good treat for today. She sucked it right down, so Bill pulled out a small can of Mighty Dog that we had, and as soon as he popped open the can Esme appeared on the counter! Apparently she used to get wet food at her old home, and the sound of the food can was enough to make her braved the dog and make an appearance! We let her eat her fill (about half the can, Cayenne finished the rest/) and then filled up her dishes with the dry food we had gotten for her. We'll leave the dry out for her all the time, and make sure to get some wet food tomorrow for lunch times.

Right now Bill is doing homework and Cayenne is curled up next to him, he just reported that Esme is napping and purring happily.

as Bill said finally after two years of sleeping on an air mattress we have a real bed!

We went out and got it yesterday, it was weird to sleep in a real bed again, I didn't sleep as well as normal, but that was mostly me being afraid of falling out after being close to the floor for so long. I think tonight now that I'm used to it, I will sleep much better. Yay!

Here it is made up with all new sheets and comforter too!

Bill and I had a great time at the NYS sheep and wool festival, down in Reinbeck. We left Friday morning, and drove down to Albany, it was raining quire fitfully, and apparently my bladder is very impressionable, we had to make several stops on the way down, but otherwise we made pretty good time. When it wasn't raining I managed to get several pictures of the wonderful foliage from the car.

Once we arrived in Albany we threw our stuff into the room and headed out to buy stuff. Albany has a wonderful selection of ethnic markets, unlike anything we have here in Clayton or Watertown, so every time we go to Albany we make sure to visit the Asian market to by curry paste (there's actually two Asian markets in Watertown, but nether of them carry the brand of curry paste we like, that doesn't use fish paste.) and then off to the Indian market to buy Dals (dried legumes) Bill got a four pound bag each of kala chana, urad dal, mung dal, and toovar dal, unfortunately the prices had gone up and instead of $3 a bag, we had to pay $7. which is still pretty damned good, since they last quite some time, and we can't find them anywhere in our area. After our shopping adventures we visited the Albany Borders, where I got to actually hold and play with a Sony Reader I want. And Bill bought a bunch of books that they don't carry in out local Borders. Then it was of to the Bangkok Thai restaurant for a delicious dinner, then back to the motel for the night.

Then to the main event, Saturday, it was a beautiful sunny day and the fairgrounds were packed, it was a struggle to walk through the vender barns without getting trampled by crazy fiber enthusiasts. I picked up a little beginners needle felting kit, and then the rest of the day was spend just wandering around and taking pictures of adorable fiber animals.
and bought some extra yummy raw cow's milk cheese! mmmmm...

Sunday it was MUCH less busy, I got to try out a bunch of spinning wheels, bought a pumpkin needle felting kit. (Reinbeck is dangerous; every time I go there I come out with a new addiction!) Read more... )
And generally wandered around more. I really wanted to buy some roving, but I haven't really had a lot of time to spin lately, and I still have a bunch of cayenne fur to finish up before I can even look ant anything else. And most of the yarns just were too expensive for too little for me to really do anything with them. Before we left we watched the parade of llamas and alpacas and then stopped by the Wildman Jack reptile show, which was a lot of fun, it was amusing to watch he kids reactions compared with their mothers.

then it was straight home form the festival, it was a nice drive, but once again, started raining again the farther we went along. Although I did get another great picture before we left the Albany area.

So with an annoying stress injury to my hand from crocheting way too much in an effort to finish a doily for the fair, I've been left with far too much free time. So I designed some Norwegian style mittens.

A couple of weeks ago I had picked up this wonderful tealish handspun yarn from the A-bay farmers market, and when I stopped by to grab my chocolate mint this last Friday I picked up another skein, this time in a lovely wine.

The other day while in Watertown I picked up 1000 Great knitting Motifs by Luise Roberts, and was inspired, so I grabbed a generic template and did some math and played with excel until I had a working (hopefully) pattern.

My hand was feeling better, and the knitting doesn't seem to bother it nearly as much. (Plus, I'm doing a lot of the colour work with my other hand) so it's been moving along wonderfully.

this is what I have so far )

The baby robins soon became fledglings and have left the nest.

Only a few days after the fledglings left I saw the moma remodeling the nest in preparation for a new brood. video here (I figured out how to get the tripod to work on the window sill, so it's steady, but I still can't figure out how to get the camera to not focus on the window screen.)

And She Was
Hey!

And she was lying in the grass
And she could hear the highway breathing
And she could see a nearby factory
She's making sure she is not dreaming
See the lights of a neighbor's house
Now she's starting to rise
Take a minute to concentrate
And she opens up her eyes

The world was moving she was right there with it and she was
The world was moving she was floating above it and she was
and she was

And she was drifting through the backyard
And she was taking off her dress
And she was moving very slowly
Rising up above the earth
Moving into the universe
And she's drifting this way and that
Not touching the ground at all
And she's up above the yard

The world was moving she was right there with it and she was
(Hey, hey)
The world was moving she was floating above it and she was

Hey, hey, hey

She was proud about it... no doubt about it
She isn't sure about what she's done
No time to think about what to tell him
No time to think about what she's done
And she was

Hey hey, hey hey, hey!

And she was looking at herself
And things were looking like a movie
She had a pleasant elevation
She's moving out in all directions
Oh, oh oh

Hey hey hey (repeated..)

The world was moving she was right there with it and she was
Hey, woo hoo
The world was moving she was floating above it and she was
Hey, hey

Joining the world of missing persons and she was
Missing enough to feel all right and she was

Ha ha
And she was
(repeated..)
