The newest member of our household! It is my pleasure to introduce you all to Miss Esmerelda Weatherwax! We went to the SPCA today and looked around, she was quite lovey, and insisted on climbing upon both mine and Bill's shoulders. They said she was used to dogs and small children, and was very calm and laid back. It was a bit of a bumpy start at first, Cayenne got far too excited by the new kitty and got a little too close for Esme's comfort, which resulted in a scratch upon the nose. But after a while with Cayenne and the leash and time to explore Esme decided upon a safe spot, and Cayenne got used to the idea that she didn't need to constantly inspect the new cat. I eventually put a blanket down in Esme's safe spot so she would have something soft to lie on. Lunch time was quite interesting, at the Shelter they only feed dry food, so we didn't know what Esme would like, and hadn't actually bought any wet food yet. We fed Cayenne first, we decided to give her the 'special food' it's this all natural stuff that comes in a tube like sausage, she loves it, and we thought it would bee a good treat for today. She sucked it right down, so Bill pulled out a small can of Mighty Dog that we had, and as soon as he popped open the can Esme appeared on the counter! Apparently she used to get wet food at her old home, and the sound of the food can was enough to make her braved the dog and make an appearance! We let her eat her fill (about half the can, Cayenne finished the rest/) and then filled up her dishes with the dry food we had gotten for her. We'll leave the dry out for her all the time, and make sure to get some wet food tomorrow for lunch times. Right now Bill is doing homework and Cayenne is curled up next to him, he just reported that Esme is napping and purring happily. Tags: peektures, pets Current Mood: chipper

I'm at my parent's babysitting the dogs while they are away at a party, they will be staying in a hotel afterwards and coming home in the late morning, so I have to watch the boys overnight, and take everybody to the groomer's in the morning. While I was playing with the bays I found the sweater I had made duchess, they had tried hiding it on top of one of dad's filing cabenets. It had been severely chewed on, on button completely chewed off, two giant holes in the body. It was a mess! The way the holes are I can just tell that the left it on the counter or something where the boys could get to it, and they ate it. I bet duchess never actually got to wear it! ARG! I'm so angry, I put so much work into that thing and they just let the boys eat it! Tags: drama, family, pets Current Mood: pissed off

We have a stray dog in our neighborhood (I think he's stray, he doesn't have a collar, is running around free in the pouring rain, and there's a nasty looking sore on his nose, that I would hope would have been looked at be now if he owned somebody) Our dog is in heat. This is not a good combination. He routinely comes around and pees in her yard, which gives her conniptions, where she tries to pee on every blade of grass between here and town when she's out. When he passed the house before and she was around she would run around the house barking and generally being bitchy, so she can hopefully get out seeing him. And now he's taken to walking up to the door, wining so Cayenne can her him, and then sniffing at each other under the door. Cayenne is going NUTS! And taking me with her! ARGH! I really don't know what to do about the situation. I can't keep her locked up in another room all day until Bill gets home. And I don't know how to get the boy dog to leave her alone. *sigh. {edit} now he's taken to sitting out in the middle of our driveway staring at the house. I think that Cayenne's wining and yipping scared him a bit (he seems jumpy, and Cayenne can be overbearing at times) Tags: critters, pets, rant Current Mood: frustrated

and he likes to sit on my back stoop. At least I think he’s a boy, I thought I saw the proper equipment when he was walking away. He’s white, and kind of big (muscle/fatty, not furry, he had a sleek coat) with some largish orange spots around his hind end and an orange stripy tail. He may have a few extra toes on his front paws, but that could have just been an optical illusion. (white paws on snow) When I got home from class tonight Boogs was sitting on a cinder block in front of the garage door, and the new guy was crouched on the back stoop between grandma’s and my doors. When I walked up he ran to the right hand corner of the house (closer to the Hailey’s) and watched me while I coaxed Boogs inside. When I opened the door he came closer, like wanted to come inside too. But I told him mom wouldn’t like that, so he ran over to the cinder block where Boogs had been and meowed at me. We had a nice little meowing conversation for a minute then he ran off to the side of the garage and disappeared into the trash pile. Interesting. I hope he has a good family, he looked healthy enough. Meow. Tags: critters, pets Current Mood: calm

Only a few hours before I get to go see Bill. *squee!* hehe I think I may have gained him bonus points with my mother the other day, because I asked her if it was ok if he and I went to Oswego to see the Vagina Monologues. Before that, mom was going to go with me, mostly because she didn’t want me to be driving alone (even though I’ve done it a million times) so not only did Bill save her from having to watch that ‘horrible’ vagina monologues with her daughter, (yes that’s a good thing apparently) but also, he doesn’t mind that kind of thing, which is also a good thing. I’m doing laundry right now, (well actually right now I’m at work, but I started my laundry before I left home) it desperately needs to be done, or I won’t have any chef’s whites for class tomorrow. I’m starting to get twitchy nervous about meeting Bill’s family. Especially Annie. I hope they all like me. I have a tendency to get really klutzy when around boyfriend’s family. (I once broke Dave’s shower, and shattered a glass all over the kitchen.) Lalala There’s really nothing for me to do here at work today, I’m just sitting around for 4 hours making up for the time I’ll be missing later on today. But even then I wouldn’t have anything to do. Blah. I really tempted to write on my time sheet that I was here for the 4 hours and just leave early. But I know that would be wrong. Although I feel justified in reading through mactavish’s memories of gay marriage stories here at church. My grandma and I had a fight over gay marriage yesterday at dinner. Yar. Stupid bigots piss me off, especially when it’s my family. Meow. Tags: friends, pets, platypus, sex, vagina Current Mood: awake What's Playing?: Rasputina - Shirtwaist Fire

This has been one of the best valentine’s days I’ve ever had. And we didn’t even do anything valentines-y like. Just a nice date (my first real date ever). First oaksong came over and we hid upstairs while my parents put away groceries, apparently I impressed him with all my books. Then we came downstairs and I made bread (and got very messy) cut up a pineapple, and mom made us pizza. Then we ‘watched’ Mullholand Drive. (Don’t worry Linds and Brandon, I’ll make him actually watch it eventually). After that we headed out to dinner at the most AWESOME Thai restaurant. I would just like to say that I LOVE Thai iced tea. It’s like drinking desert. And the food was excellent. Then we went to the mall and I just HAD to buy a Thai cook book. Then I went over to EB to look for the games Aaron wanted. But I could only find one. :( (Momo, tell Aaron I bought Space Channel 5 for him, he doesn’t have to pay me back, it was only, like $3) Then we came back here and gave Duchess a bunch of loving. (I’m beginning to feel jealous; she likes oaksong better than me.) And tried some of the bread I made. I was slightly disappointed, it was very dense and not all that great. I think I’m going to give up on sour dough breads for a while and try doing whole wheat, and maybe plain Italian. Well I’m sleepy and should probably head to bed, ‘specially considering I have to work tomorrow morning. Toodlies all! Tags: food, holidays, pets, platypus Current Mood: loved

Booger just yelled at me I had his chair next to mine, but I had the stuffed kitty and my shoes on it, so he couldn't get up to be petted. So he makes this very loud and accusing meow at me with one paw pushing at the stuffed animal. I had to take everything off and apologies to him when he finally jumped up before he would nuzzle my hand to be pet. Now he's looking at me and making little mew sounds because I'm typing instead of paying attention to him.... Better go. Heh I love my kitty, he's so cute. Tags: pets Current Mood: amused

Owies Took the kitten to the vet today to get his checkup and shots. He loved the car ride there; he sat in the passenger seat and looked out the window like a dog. Very cute. (Don't worry he was on a small retractable leash which was belted in, he wasn't going anywhere) He was a little nervous in the waiting room with all the weird noises and people around, but he was ok. Then we took him into the examination room and the nurse tried to take his temperature... Disaster, he was all over the place, scratching and biting and having little kitty hysterics. After that I was able to get him a little calmer while we waited for the doctor, but when he tried to examine him he would bite and scratch and get all spastic. The doctor was great though, he handled it smoothly and kept him as calm as possible, I was impressed. They had to take Rusty into the other room to get his shots and have the blood drawn for the feline leukemia test, and while he was there I asked to have his claws trimmed. They said they were ale to keep him distracted enough to get everything done, they even got the de-worming pill in with no problem. After that we had to wait a little bit for the test results so I let him run around and explore the exam room on the leash and I talked to the doctor about getting him neutered and de-clawed and about having to get boosters for some of his shots. The blood work was negative so we were set to go, I made an appt for Tues, Nov. 4 for Rusty to go into the hospital and get de-clawed and fixed. And then about 2-3 weeks later he needs his boosters. So now he's home and happy and Boogs is happy because he doesn't have sharp claws anymore. But my hands are still sore from the scratching Rusty dealt out before he got hem trimmed. Ah well. Took Duchess to the vet today to get a check up and some shots, she also had a rash under her left arm that we wanted to get checked out. The rash was actually a rope like burn from her run outside, as if she had gotten caught on it and then gone running. So they gave us some soap solution stuff to wash it with and some antibiotics, so that should clear up in about a week or so. Then she got her shot, and the doctor laughed 'cus I gave her a hug, he said the shot hurt me more than it did her, it probably did, it didn't even seem like she noticed it. :) Then I asked the doctor about Rusty, and he said that if he doesn't have a little tattoo on his tummy then he probably wasn't fixed by the SPCA, and there for probably doesn't have any of his shots either. Bah. So I have to make an appointment for him pretty soon, because I don't want him getting sick or getting Boogs or Dutch sick either. And he needs to get fixed before he starts spraying all over the house. Tags: pets Current Mood: calm

I'm sitting here brushing my hair, and I hear a bunch of scrabbling outside my open window. I look over and a bunch of sparrows and such are flying around and landing on the little awning that hangs under my window. Then a few minutes later Boogs wanders into my room and hears the noise and he's instantly in 'hunt' mode, he crouches down and slinks across the rest of my room to the window, where he slooowly climbs up the small chair and pile of books and other junk I have under the window until he can look out at the birds. (All of this is of course ruined by the bell on his collar, but he doesn't seem to notice) After a while he begins to inch closer and closer to the screen separating him from the birds as the flit about outside. His ear flat so they don't stick up, his body low, but his tail flashing back and forth like crazy, making lots of noise as it smack against another pile of books. Then he had the birds in sight, they're so close, there is actually one right on the window sill! ... and he meows at it. :: facepalms :: *sigh well at lest I know my Boogs won't be running around outside killing innocent birdys. I bought the kitten some toys today from the dollar store, and then got him and Boogs some new belled collars at Wal-Mart. That way the kitten can't sneak up on Boogs, and Bogs's was getting shredded by his scratching. A red one for the kitten, and a blue one for Boogs. I talked it over with mom tonight, and since the new kitten has obviously claimed grandmother, and nobody really liked his old name, we told grandma to rename him. His name is now Rusty. Much better. Today Rusty and Boogs spent about an hour sitting and staring at each other, growling and meowing every once in a while. Rusty keeps trying to pounce and play, but Boogs wants no part in it. And sometimes he'll box Rusty so he goes tumbling. So cute, that's the same way Bogs and Frisky were when Boogs was new. So I'm sure they will get alon eventually. I stopped by the vet's today to check on prices and specifics about when/how of neutering and declawing (all our cats are declawed in the front paws so they don't hurt each other or the dog when they play, and won't destroy the furniture, they still have their back claws and that's what cats usually use when fighting, so they aren't totally defenseless), and shots if we can't get the papers, or if they aren't as up to date as the old owners said. And anyways I want to get him a full checkup. (Stats here so I remember too) They want to wait to do the declawing and neutering in one sitting so they only have to anesthetize him once, it would be an over night stay and $160. But he has to be at least 4-5 lbs for the neutering, and we don't think he's even close to that yet. So we have to wait for that. Before surgery they wanna do some blood work, which would be $22. A distemper shot and exam would be $28 A Rabies shot and exam would be $20.50 Both shots together and exam would only be $41, so it's a deal. Hopefully Tia will get me the papers and such from the old owners for me tomorrow, so I know how much I have to get together For Rusty's visit. I promised my parents that I would take care of all the technical stuff for him; it was part of my begging to keep him. I put in an application at Hot Topic the other day, and I'm really hopeful on that, and a job would be very helpful. I need to remember to stop in a few other places that were hiring. Ok, mom says its just temporary until we find a good home. Tia was getting desperate, she really didn't want to have to take another kitten in, and her friends were moving and couldn't keep him. He's already been to like 3-4 homes, so the poor thing is scared. He still has his claws so that's going to be a problem for a while, since Boogs doesn't. and since he's so scared and this is a new home he's a little violent, but nothing I can't handle, and Booger is a big boy. Were keeping him downstairs in grandma's house with the food and the kitty litter. And the kitchen door is closed so he stays in there for now, and we let Boogs in to introduce them. After dinner I may take him to meet duchess, I dunno how that will go. When booger was a kitten Dutch kept trying to put his head in her mouth. I hope this goes well he's really cute. He's a little orange tiger, Sooo cute. I'll take pictures after dinner! Tags: pets Current Mood: bouncy
